Surviving the Payload: Architecting Android for Hostile APIs
Ideally, your mobile app is supported by a clean, purpose-built GraphQL layer or a dedicated Backend-for-Frontend (BFF). In practice, however, you often need to gather data from siloed enterprise services, bloated legacy endpoints, and heavily nested REST APIs directly on the client.
This four-part series explores how to create resilient, high-performance Android architectures in hostile backend environments. Using the dense and interconnected PokeAPI as a stand-in for a legacy enterprise system, we will examine advanced client-side aggregation, handling partial network failures, complex relational caching in Room, and addressing Jetpack Compose recomposition bottlenecks when rendering large datasets.
